STEPS TO CHECK COMPREHENSION

  • Make frequent stops and have children describe the pictures in their minds.
  • After reading, have students draw what they see in their mind.
  • Ask your child to come up with questions before reading to see if they answered in the text.
  • Stop and predict what will happen next.
  • Discuss what questions you still have after reading.
  • Look at the cover and pictures then make predictions.
  • When students struggle with words, ask:
  1. Does that look right?
  2. Does that sound right?
  3. Does that make sense?
